The theme is "High Seas Expedition" and we will be exploring God's Word each and every day!!!
In his first letter to the church in Corinth, the apostle Paul reminded them, “Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers…I became your father through the gospel.” [I Cor 4:15] He was referring to his having planted the church years before and his teaching them the way to live in Christ. He even goes on in verse 16 to say: “Therefore I urge you to imitate me.”
Rev. Herschel Rogers was the founding Pastor of WGBC back in 1955 and laid a great foundation for its future. As you can see in the bio below, he had a life-long commitment to ‘missions’ —to the work of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. He always encouraged a strong emphasis on missions. We need to continue to imitate him in that regard!
In fact, this year’s budget included an additional $1,200 to be designated for international or national mission work. The Church Council decides monthly where this money should go. That addition was the result of John Zimmer Sr. reminding us of Rev. Rogers’s commitment to mission giving. His influence lives on, as it should.
Haiti has been the target of that giving much of this year.In fact, our son, Keith Tilford, was supported in his August mission trip to Haiti to help build homes for displaced persons/families.
